How to Inspect a Used RV

Buying a used RV over a new model is an excellent way to get a great deal on a camper that will meet your needs while saving you money. However, if you’re interested in buying a pre-owned camper, you do need to thoroughly inspect it before you purchase it. A good inspection will help you determine how well the camper was cared for by previous owners.

Walk Around the Outside

First, take a stroll around the entire used RV and look for rust, corrosion, broken slide-outs, and other signs of damage that could cost you a pretty penny in repairs. The tires should be in good condition and properly aired up, the windows and doors should open and shut easily, and the exterior should not be excessively worn-down or dented.

Examine the Interior

Walk around the inside of the used RV you want and look for signs of disrepair, including water leaks, rust, corrosion, broken furniture, or malfunctioning appliances. You may want to test both the power and water supplies if possible. Check the water tanks to make sure they are all clean, too.

Get the Maintenance Records

Finally, you’ll want to ask the seller or dealership for the maintenance records for the used camper in question. Looking over the maintenance records will tell you how frequently service was performed on the RV and what types of repairs were made. This information should help you to finalize your decision.
